Website Redesign Migration Checklist
A pre-launch and post-launch checklist for preserving valuable content, URLs, analytics, forms, accessibility, structured data, and ownership during a redesign.
Before design is approved
Inventory URLs, traffic, links, conversions, content, media, structured data, integrations, accessibility issues, ownership, and existing redirects. Mark what will remain, improve, merge, or retire.
Before launch
Crawl staging, test canonical and robots behavior, validate redirects, submit every important form, check event payloads, review responsive layouts, and confirm production environment configuration.
- Noindex removed from production
- Redirects preserve relevant paths
- Consent and attribution fields work
After launch
Crawl the production site, monitor server errors and Search Console, compare indexed routes, test conversions, watch performance, and retain the rollback and issue-response plan.
Apply the framework carefully
This article explains a general decision framework. Validate it against your own market, site, customers, systems, data, capacity, contractual commitments, and any applicable legal or professional requirements.
