What Should a B2B Lead Dataset Contain?
A field-by-field framework for buying or commissioning lead data with clear selection logic, source notes, freshness, limitations, and responsible-use expectations.
Begin with the selection specification
Document inclusion, exclusion, geography, industry classification, size or operational signals, digital conditions, research date, and how uncertain records should be handled.
Include context for every field
A data dictionary should explain format, source category, whether the value is observed or derived, permitted blanks, validation status, and how recently it was reviewed.
- Business identity and geography
- Fit and timing signals
- Source confidence and recency
Plan for responsible activation
Before delivery, define CRM mapping, deduplication, suppression, outreach relevance, opt-out handling, access controls, retention, and which regulations require legal review.
Apply the framework carefully
This article explains a general decision framework. Validate it against your own market, site, customers, systems, data, capacity, contractual commitments, and any applicable legal or professional requirements.
